We get on the road.

With our 10:30 projected start, we managed to pull out of town by 11:15…a personal best! Truck was loaded with clothes, sodas & all the electrical equipment Russell owns. Jessica was dismayed by my not seeing the need to pack much clothes, a brush or shampoo. We will be buying t-shirts, wearing a hat & hotels have shampoo…she shuddered a bit at that one.

We had printed out the basic route, but I hate using the turn by turn until necessary…I don’t like being told what to do. I know how to get to KC, I am a man after all. It wasn’t until we were approaching the booth at the turnpike that I realized I’d passed the I35 turn off. Whoops….

The Journey Begins

Russell’s Sr. trip!!

We have been planning a trip since Luke & Jessica went to New York City last summer. Big city sight seeing is not our type of entertainment…we are more the let’s drive and see lots of things type of guys. So we thought of the one place we most wanted to see…or at least I wanted to see. It did not take much to talk Russ into road tripping to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, especially when I suggested we go to some MLB games along the way. I threw out the idea last summer and Russ said “cool”. High praise from a then 17 year old.

Shortly after the MLB schedules came out this spring I looked into when the best dates were and how many games we could see. I picked out a week in late July that would be best for my work and started with the Kansas City Royals. As it turned out KC is home for 5 days straight starting on July 20th. PERFECT start. I then went to the Chicago Cubs schedule and they were to be home on the 21st. The White Sox were out of town the next day, but the Detroit Tigers were home on the 22nd. Now the main reason for the trip was the Pro Football Hall of Fame which is in Canton, OH just outside of Cleveland. The Indians just happen to be in a 3 game home stand the 23rd, 24th, & 25th. From there on the way home I checked on Pittsburg…they’re away that week, but Cincinnati is home on the 26th and then the St. Louis Cardinals are home on the 27th. We would then come back to our home on the 28th.

I’m very excited to spend a week alone with Russell! Nobody to tell us where (or what) to eat. We can play the music loud and make up tons of stupid games…one of our own favorite pastimes. Wish me luck with traffic, hotels and StubHub.
